Hmm, but she was intoxicated. I suppose it echoes the whole letting your guard down when drunk theme.

I mean, the radio adverts we had recently in the UK spring to mind for me, which went along the lines of "you wouldn't do [insert stupid action here] whilst sober. Why do it when you're drunk?"

MJK could have been the inspiration for the advert. "You wouldn't invite a man carrying some strange parcel back to your place in the midst of the murders whilst sober..."

Ah, ok. Yeah, I can see it now. Mary aggravates a normally placid cat, and the claws are out.

Did he ever get questioned? Did he have an alibi?

Anyway. I'd say firstly: someone unknown to us, but possibly known to MJK, thus explaining how he'd have been in her room.

I also like the sailor theory. Is there any way of checking boats docked in London around the time? The one thing that concerns me with that theory is that if MJK was killed by the Ripper, what would the odds have been of the Ripper knowing the whitechapel area?

It's interesting someone mentioned the bent copper theory, as that's the theory I'm taking up for my book (before people start ranting and rating about lack of evidence, it's a fictional book.) But that could explain why the Ripper was never named. It would have been am embarrassment for the police force, and force trust of the force lower. It's a possibility. But as of yet, I'm not sure how probable.

James Kelly is also another possibility, and slightly ironic that the victim in question shared hip surname, but bears no known relation. However, where was he until 1927? And why the halt in murders of the same MO? That takes us into a debate about who, after the MJK murder was a ripper victim.

    For me its this order;

    1. Blotchy Face
    2. A current lover
    3. A Fenian

    Then:

    4. Joseph Merrick........with help
    5. Richard Mansfield.....after a bad review.
    6. Victoria Regina......after slum pubbing with some Members of Parliament

    Best regards all.

    Diddles definitely makes MJK canonical.
Just remember his broad shoulders and the peaked cape he used to wear at night.

    Hi Halo,

I vote for Kelly. James Kelly.

Was the general population told of his escape from Broadmoor on Jan 23, 1888?

Yes we know the authorities were alerted and there was a reward in the Police Gazette, but I can't figure out if the public knew, if the regular newspapers carried the story at the time. If there was no alert to the general public, he would have more freedom of movement.

As always, your help is appreciated.

    Roy

James Kelly as the only proven killer of the bunch, but not as linked to MJK in any way other than as her murderer.

This is an even poll as it had to be with so many people's opinions about this subject...interesting that Joe Barnett has not had a vote yet..

    Hello you all!

    Here comes my list:

    1. A perfectly common man, that no-one ever notices anywhere!
    2. Very far behind him; a sailor visting London randomly.
    3. Utmost far behind him; (and definitely possibly) a bent copper.

    All the best
    Jukka

Blotchy, Fleming and Hutchinson would be the ones to watch here, IMO.
