Philip,
It was a piece by the late, great Des McKenna, and anything by him was always worth reading.

There was a feature on Jacripa in the WS1888 Journal a year or two ago. I don't go along with suspects and have no interest in it, but this made a very plausible case for adding him to the list. Well worth searching out.

I had a look under "Google" and found nothing. I tried "Ask Jeeves", "Lycos" and "Excite" and all 4 showed the same results albeit in different order.

All rather interesting
I can still find nothing via google on 'Jackripa' ?
I don't suppose you have the Echo article in full do you Garath?
I'm curious of the source, its completely new info on MJK, to me, if true.
Yours Jeff

Hi Neil,Originally posted by Monty View PostIm sure Gareth will put me straight but Havelock Street is near the docks?
The source for the "Havelock Street" story, according to the link posted by Jeff, appears to have been a report in the South Wales Echo of the 12th November 1888. Heaven knows where they got it from - the story is new to me, so it's an interesting find.
I might dream that "Havelock Street" was a mis-hearing of "Halkett Street", which was practically a ghetto of poor Irish immigrants throughout the latter half of the C19th, and where my personal favourite for a Cardiffian "Mary Kelly" lived.

Jeff,
Im sure Gareth will put me straight but Havelock Street is near the docks which, as you may know, is a red light district in any port.
Refresh me, William Evan Thomas, was he Jacripa?

As far as I'm aware the only known facts are that Kelly staid with a Cousin (Could be Male or Female?) in Cardiff for eight or nine months. (interestingly about the same time as a pregnacy).
I wondered if Havelock street had a conection to the Red light district (mentions Mary Ann Street) and whether someone had put two and two togther...they seem to be quoting from an Echo report? But why Havelock Street..is there an 1888 Echo source?
The article also quotes William Evan Thomas as a suspect, which is unusual. It always intrigues me when features get it wrong bt through in snippets of fact..

Gosh that has a lot of inaccuracies hasn't it. I wonder what their source is. Might even be worth checking them out. I wonder if you can contact them.

Those damn Welsh chaps again. MJK
Hi Guys
Just a quick post..i'm out again
However I came across a feature in 'Wales online'..as you do..
SHE boarded the soot-spattered train in Cardiff’s smoky station 120 years ago, bound for a new life in London.
It has a number of facts mixed up.
However it makes a claim I have not come across before on MJK.
'That Mary Kelly's cousin may have lived in Havelock Street, Cardiff?'
Does anyone know where this information came from?
ie its source?
