The intent is to get people to think rigorously about what single additional observation would be most valuable.

If we were all sickos, then the obvious answer would be Kelly, unless you are a scarf asphyxiation fetishist or something strange like that.

Tho Kelly also has a large share of unsolved mysteries surrounding her death. You would be able to tell:

      - did the killer enter via the window, or via the door?
      - time of death: we basically have no idea about this, and have only conflicting witness reports and a fire that may have been a week old
      - light conditions
      - complexion of the killer's face
      - we don't even know what MJK looked like

On the other hand, you might be signing up to watch hours worth of some guy hacking away at a poor woman's body. Or you might be signing up to watch the killer cuddle in bed with MJK for hours before finishing her off on his way out with shocking speed. Who knows.

        Hello,Hello,hello

"your view starts with the killer and the victim arriving at the crime scene, includes the totality of the murder, and ends after the murderer leaves the scene. You only see the murder scene."

Only the murder scene eh.. If i pay a little extra could i get the upgrade with the special night vision goggles ?

And apart from Kelly , and Stride , what if that murder scene was the inside of a carriage , Could i get a refund

        moonbegger .

            Hi Damaso

I'd pick the Kelly murder scene for the reasons you outline above, and also to see:

            - Whether the killer was somebody Kelly knew
            - Whether Mr Astrakhan existed (only possible if he was the killer, so I'd probably be disappointed there..)

how would any ghost observer know the time? By the stars? It would be a rough guess at best.
I notice there are a few for Kelly...

There's no way I could watch the killer gut MJK down to her bones--unless I had intriguing reading material to block my view. Would I be allowed to snoop around for letters from her mom before the killer burned them in the fireplace? Solving the mystery of MJK's background and real name is almost as intriguing as learning JtR's moniker.

If not, I'd opt for Eddowes. I'd like to know more about the apron bit. Watching Stride would answer a lot of questions but wouldn't finger JtR for me. I'm firmly Stride out.

                Best,
                Janice

The same way the locals did--by the tolling of the church bells.

So you would be listening for the hour to strike?
So you'd pick the murder scene nearest a church with bells?
                    Which one?

                      Hi Lechmere,

I'm guessing the nearest to a church with bells would be Kelly & Christchurch wouldn't it? I'll still stick with Chapman though,

                      Regards, Bridewell.

                        .

I don't even want to do it unless accompanied by a Ghost of Whitechapel Past that could explain it all to me (a la "A Christmas Carol")

                          Hi Sally,

Why can't he exist and not be the killer? MJK could have found another punter after he left - even supposing she wasn't killed by an intruder.

                          "Perplexed of Bottesford".

No, that wasn't what I meant.

Under the rules of this game, it would only be possible to know if Mr Astrakhan existed if he was the killer, since we're only allowed to view the crime scene.

                            That was what I meant.

Yes, I see what you mean now. Apologies for being (even) thicker than usual!

                                Hi Colin

I do think that she was killed by an intruder - Ah, but which one?

Only being able to see one crime scene is tricky. It was difficult to choose.
