I've only just found this thread, and the photos posted are fascinating. I did the 'JtR Walk' several times, the last time being about 25 years ago, and I thought things had changed a lot then! However, the changes I see today, especially around Mitre Square (a quiet little backwater when I was last there) are incredible - and I have to say, not all bad.

Many thanks to everyone who posted the photos.

    Graham

I see that Mitre Square is still the scene of monstrous deeds.

My memory isn´t altogether at fault because it is exactly where I remember it.

Will see if they allow me to publish it.

As it happens I was wrong. A childhood friend (a little older) remembers the shop as a shoe shop, not a drapers.

    Just goes to show!

Thanks for these photos Roy. It's good for we posters who don't live in the capital to see changes to sites and streets associated with the JTR murders. For good or ill, that's London!

An arch from Holy Trinity Priory which survived the Dissolution, still in place and today inside an office building on Mitre Street.

Photo of Cree House, showing its name at top. The building at Mitre Street and Creechurch Lane, originally Phillips Fruit Co 1891.

This building still stands at the corner of Mitre Street and Creechurch Lane. I don't know the date of it, and its not a Listed one.

Today's its a wine bar with apartments above. The arches echo the main gate of Holy Trinity Priory which stood at almost this exact spot. Coincidence, or a nod to history by the architect ...
