Who wrote the "Diary"

Hi all,
Some months back a book "JTR AND BLACKMAGIC" written by Spiro Dimolianis claimed that the diary was proberbly written by F S Stuart and D McCormick.
This was said to be fact by a number of members on one of the Maybrick threads at the time, and yet I fail to see these two names on the poll above.
Also I dont quite understand why it contains both JTR and Maybrick and why they should have a different amount of votes.

Fake or no, Barrett & Harrison's book is a good read. I'm about 60% through, and throughly enjoying it. In fact, I've also ordered "Edged in Arsenic", which will be my follow-up to this.

PS: I voted for Barrett in the poll. Clever forgery.

On the other hand, I don't believe Mike has ever told the truth about the blessed thing.

Everything I've written concerning Mike's confessions is based on 'publicly disclosed' information which can be found in Ripper Diary, which was published nearly a decade ago. Read it or remain forever in blissful ignorance. Your choice.

At the time of Mike's 'confessions', his wife had left him, taking their only daughter with her, and he was drinking heavily. He got it into his head that Paul Feldman was on a mission to reveal to the world that his beloved daughter was descended directly from Jack the Ripper.

He had certainly not bargained for this when he first took the diary to London. What if the world had believed Feldman? The diary might have been 'gold', but it would have been deadly poison as far as Mike was concerned. By getting in first and telling the world he wrote it all by himself (and later claiming that his wife had penned it, when the initial confession fell flat as a pancake) he could put a stop to Feldy's poison and try to limit the damage to his own royalties with a 'master forger' story that might have sold quite well in its own right - if he'd been able to prove it, which of course he couldn't.

The detail and complexity of that first affadvait suggests that he didnt simply walk into a solicitors and real that of verbatum. I would suggest he went there with a draft already prepared in advance.

The questions thereafter are

By whom and for what purpose.

The way that was drafted and reads is not consistent with how Barrett was at that time decsribed mentally or physically and with out a doubt beyond his ability to formulate it in the way it was drafted.

Barrett was in my opinion perhaps a pawn used in a much bigger game someone mentioned the word "Patsy" or "fall guy". When he woke up to reality and all that was coming his way perhaps he put the frightners on other game players and as a result we are where we are today.

Like most things the truth will come out one day

Perhaps you yourself might like to disclose more you keep indicating that you know more about this than has been so far been publicly disclosed

I have been into the polls alot recently. I want to know who you think wrote the diary.

The Maybrick Diary is owned by Robert Smith, the man who first published Shirley Harrison's The Diary of Jack the Ripper in 1993 under the imprint of Smith Gryphon. Mr. Smith no longer works as a publisher but is now a literary agent.

Yep, got to agree with you there, all the JM related books are great reads, whats most interesting is no one can explain them away.

And like everyone else you're entitled to your opinion, even if it is wrong
