In Ripperologist 126 Christer invited us to consider the evidence for Cross/Lechmere as a witness and for Cross/Lechmere as the Ripper.

    "Our Survey Said":

10.2% of those who have responded to the question posed by this thread are of the view that he is a 'very likely' candidate (to be the Ripper). The remaining 89.8% are spread between 'possible', 'improbable' and 'highly unlikely'. It would seem that, despite the author's best efforts to persuade us otherwise, the overwhelming majority find the case for Cross/Lechmere as the Ripper to be unconvincing.

I'll stick with my original vote ('possible') which I think fairly reflects the known facts.

    Regards, Bridewell.

By and large, Monty, I think that depends on WHOSE rules we are speaking of. Rules that allow for other names than your real one to be passed off as equally viable as a correct name, and that tells me that nameswops are unsuspicious ... nah.

    Goodnight Monty.

    There are rules Christer?

Not like you to abide by them.

Yes, Phil - and thatīs because they were all found with freshly killed Ripper victims, since they can all be tied to the murder spots at the correct times by logical reasoning, due to their all having served the authorities false names and depending on them all having served PC:s lies that facilitated their respective withdrawals from the Ripper accusations.

They all need to burn in hell for being the Ripper, each and everyone of them!

But Lechmere? Nah - heīs unjustly pointed to as the perpetrator. Itīs all conjecture, nothing else.

Besides, how COULD he have been the Ripper, if the other three guys were?

    All the best,
    Fisherman

    Hello Lechmere,

Yes, this 'wacky world' is indeed Pythonesque at times.
No doubt a CD ROM game designed to reinstate the Fab Three will come out this time next year. The build up started with something 'definitive' a while ago. And article after article about the Fab Three has, and will back it up, all the way to and beyond the 125th.. Kos, Dru and Tum will take their never ending 'rightful' place again. Its called promotion by systematic swamping of the market.
Unless you are betting on a quiet horse BIG promo called Sickert...
    Stating the 'bleeding obvious' indeed.
    Cynicism has many disguises.
    My thanks for the post.

    Best wishes

    Phil

    Hello Christer,

Like I said- I dont at this moment in time believe he was the murderer but I wont rule him out of C1.

Unless someone is going to attempt to redefine the English language, a false name- an alias- an assumed name he did give. He did NOT give a name recorded as 'known as' to the police. He did NOT give his real name.

You must remember Christer- you aren't allowed to reinterpret anything you have been told or guided to in Ripperology. It isnt the done thing. The genre will die and go away if you do. Woe betide those who dare to 'Cross' the 'apparent' unwritten rules.
Apparently, that is. LOL HAHAHA, ETC. (a quip at no individual's expense)
(i have to make that clear or its tantamount to solitary confinement and draconian reaction)

what was it David Bowie said? 'Take your protein pills and put your helmet on'?

'Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do'..OR
'Druitt and Kosminski are true and there's nothing else to do'
'Tum t tum ble ty, t tum tum'

Keep smiling Christer. Could be worse. At least Lechmere didnt paint a hidden message on his cart...

    Best wishes

    Phil

    illegal name?

    Hello Christer. Thanks.

"Aha. You spoke of "legal" names earlier, Lynn. Would Beckinridge be sort of a correct, illegal name then ...? And how many names do you reckon a chap can have, all of them being correct names? Just asking."

I should say "name used for legal documents." I do not know what an illegal name is.

"If you answer anything but innumerable, Iīll be surprised."

If I understand the question, I will be surprised.

"Oh, and are we agreed that the authorities will not have as generous an interpretation of this as you have?'

What authorities? Scotland Yard? They seemed unconcerned.

    Cheers.
