Who was 'Jack the Ripper' - the poll.

At various times I've favoured Druitt then Fleming and after the opening of Broadmoor files a little while ago Cutbush, but I am now leaning towards Francis Thompson as a man with medical training and mental problems and a fascination with murder who was known to have associated with Eastend prostitutes, including an ill fated relationship in the summer of 1888.

I'm still undecided on this. Until recently, i believed it was Tumblety, but following research I now see that as highly unlikely.
Montague John Druitt was someone I also suspected at one point, but again, research has put that theory to rest.
It's probably someone that neither we, nor anyone involved on the case in a professional sense has considered.

But why? What would be in it for the accomplice?Originally posted by Joseph View PostA policeman possibly abetted by another.
The only reason I can think for thinking JtR was a policeman would be because of how the Ripper got away with murder (literally), but anyone could've killed and gotten away with it in those days, all they had to do was be quick and discreet, which Jack obviously was. There's nothing sinister or even clever about him in that respect.

Hello Joseph!
When I read about this case for the first time in the 1970s - it was only shortly mentioned in the articles about The Yorkshire Ripper - I thought him to be a copper...
However, I am not so sure anymore.
But; he was someone, we have never even been thinking about!
All the best
Jukka

What about a poll: "Had Maybrick a military appearance?"

Then, Jeff, we can do a Which-Witness-Do-You-Believe-Poll. Or a Do-You-Believe-Hutch poll. Etc.!

Brilliant, we could do a Hutchinson, Flemming or Maybrick poll
What do you think?

Hi David,Originally posted by DVV View PostTo continue, there is a problem with Hutchinson, since some of the 4 people who have voted for him believe him to be Hutch, while others believe Hutch to be an alias.
One name, two rippers.
Maybe we need a Do-You-Think-Joe-Fleming-Was-George-Hutchinson-Poll.
I guess we need to lasso Barry!

Two suspects were named in National newspapers:The first man was Frances Tumblety, named in 1888/89 in the American Press as being a police suspect for Jack the Ripper, who two Scotland Yard men ,allegedly, followed across the Atlantic.
The other was Thomas Cutbush, accused of being Jack the Ripper by the Sun newspaper in 1894.Thomas Cutbush was said by Macnaghten to be the nephew of his Scotland Yard colleague,Supt Charles Cutbush.
Frances Tumblety appears to have been a psycopathic conman and posed as a doctor. He could have been the ripper.
Thomas Cutbush was sent to Broadmoor in 1891,for stabbing women at random in the street.I think he is also a strong candidate and could have been the ripper.

Yeah, obviously.
I mean just think of all the hours of sleep I'd lose if Hutchinson wasn't getting the votes.
