Charles Booth's "Descriptive Map of London Poverty", 1887-1889
Many of the Whitechapel murders sites are black areas in the map.
So my question is this. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?* The ripper murders or the black areas put into the map? Since the date ranges 1887-1889 I take it one must refer to news articles and books at the time 1888 and what they had to say about it.
In a way I am wondering if JtR had known about Booth's work and made use of it. I mean wouldn't it read like a guide to "slumming"?

*The egg. Dinosaurs laid eggs. Dinosaurs evolved before chickens. Birds are very closely related to dinosaurs. Sorry just had to add that point.
