Definitely a trick of the light, given that the nearest light is above and slightly to the rear.

    But still, spooky stuff!

    All the best

    Hi Uncle Jack

If the red area was a shadow I'd expect the man's features to be visible though the shadow, this is not the case, as I said his nose and part of the upper lip is gone. I forgot to mention that his hands are covered in what appear to be large boils.

Below is the full sized original photograph, and I do realise that he's pointing to the wrong spot regarding where Catherine Eddowes actually lay.

The following photograph was taken at the site of Catherine Eddowes murder. Notice the red area obscuring part of the man's face. I have blown this photograph up and the man's features are obliterated where the red mask covers his face. The area covered by the red mask on the man's face seem to mirror Catherine Eddowes injuries. Trick of the light? I think so.

    all the best

There are reports many years ago, when the original 29 Hanbury Street remained, that a man would walk upto the doorway of 29 with a woman and then simply vanish. This was assumed to be a "replay" apparition of Jack and Chapman.

Also Chapman is believed to haunt the brewery and Durward Street is scene to a female spirit believed to be Nichols.

Over in Mitre Square a crumpled body has been spotted in "Ripper's Corner" and is believed to be Eddowes.

I have no idea if there are reports of hauntings at the Stride and Kelly murder sites.

EVP and so forth is a load of old crap, but aren't there tales of odd happenings in the offices of the brewery which is/was on the site of 29 Hanbury Street?

Maybe George Hutchinson has some further word on this.

The very first time I toured the East End JtR sites (early 1970's) I was stood in Durward Street contemplating the gateway, when some rough-looking old geezer sidled up to me and gave me his take on how the Ripper did for his victims, blood pouring down the gutter, etc., and that was a damn siight more scary for little me than any possibility of paranormal phenomena...

I would've thought he'd haunt the murder sites more so than the victims in a sick sense to relive his crimes. Unless the victims are somehow trapped at the place of their deaths, I can't see logically why they'd want to hang around there for all eternity when they could go and haunt a pub or shuffle off to the other side or something.

And those work out ads on the side of this window are wrongly amusing in advertising how to get 'ripped' in so many weeks. o_O

Fakery comes out because it is the explanation. It's easy because it's the truth. Any one of these EVPs can be recreated. Why is it that the ones on Ghost Hunters and other shows are clearer than what the average Joe can conjure up on an amateur ghost hunt? Better equipment? Nah. Selling advertisement and TV ratings? Oh Yeah. I don't care if people believe in faeries, pookahs, chupacabra, or ghosts. Just put superstition in Pub Talk and I'm okay with it.

    Cheers,

    Mike

Hi, I believe a couple weeks ago I saw on this site a request for ideas for Ripper Podcast episodes. I meant to suggest the subject of murder site hauntings but never got around to it. You might want to suggest that to menges. Thanks!

An E.V.P is a voice that is heard on an audio recording that wasn't heard at the time of the recording, very often sounding like a voice. Some are very clear and some not but there is no denying that a voice of someone who wasn't present at the time is clearly there.
