    Hi Observer,

Yes you are right. Dorset Street is only a minute to two minute walk away.

    Regards

    Rob

Thanks Rob, your photo ilustrates just how close the two locations are. 29 Hanbury isn't that far from Mary Kelly's Millers Court either. Those two murders must of had an impact on Mary Kelly, she must of heard of the graffiti in Goulston Street, the killer was literally on her doorstep.

      all the best

Some interesting photos here Chris and Rob.
It is surprising,as noted above, how very close some of the crime scenes are to one another.Mitre Square too is only a couple of minutes from Goulston Street/Bell Lane/The Providence Night refuge which itself stands facing the end of what was Dorset Street. You can still see the Night Refuge standing some thirty yards from the spot where Mary was murdered, from Commercial Street.

As the building at the rear is boarded up, both at ground level and the windows, I would suggest it is a anti-debris-falling-on-your-head-measure!
                        Regards Mike

That cat is chasing a rather large flying arrow, no wonder all the kids are hiding under the "wooden flange"!

Here's something most of you won't have known about.

I take it most of us know that Polly Nichols spent a lot of time in her final years at the Lambeth Workhouse. Did you know, though, that some of it still stands?

I went to the site a couple of weeks ago and took some photos. Much has been rebuilt (it was later a hospital) but the water tower, at least, would have been familiar to Polly. Some of it has been demolished, some is derelict and some is looking uncertain.

And some more (stupid five photo rule...)

This huge mound of bricks is on the site of the Womens' Ward, where Polly would have been. If they are from the time of the workhouse or the later hospital, I can't say.
