Greetings all,
Bit of a soft question and not one of any real consequence, but I remember reading a few years ago that some thought was given to the idea that the murderer may have been a sailor or seaman of some sort. To this end, it was proposed that there would be some sort of programme of police surveillance of the major ports, including Plymouth.
I've spent some time recently researching some of the local press here in Plymouth and how they viewed and reported the Whitechapel Murders. However, there is no mention of any police observations of the the port here, which I thought was an interesting omission given the eagerness of (us) "provinicials" to find a connection to the murders, however tenuous.
For the life of me, I can't find where I read the original report, and I'm unable to put my hands on my books at present; I was hoping some kind soul might point me in the right direction
Thanks in advance
