I agree it does seem strange, perhaps it was just to cross the t's and dot the i's for the Police Orders, and he may never have actually worn them on his uniform, keeping his 385N number.

    Thanks Jon,

I find it odd he was given a 'H' number if only with Whitechapel from Islington for a month.

Anyhoos, let me have a root around and I'll get back to you.

Thanks Monty, he was PC William John Pile and was awarded the 1897 Jubilee, and both 1902 and 1911 Coronations. They are all to him on N Division, but I know he was seconded to Whitechapel between the dates mentioned. He joined the Met in 1887.

    Jon,

What medals are they and do you have a name?

I may be able to help. If youd rather, mail or PM me.

    Pinchin Street - Police reinforcements

    Hi,
I have just added a trio of Metropolitan Police medals to my collection, and the Met Police orders show the recipient was posted to Whitechapel as Pc 572H on 14/9/1889 for just one month, then returned to his own Division.
I realise his posting was four days after the torso was discovered in Pinchin St, and I have been told James Monro requested 100 men to assist with the enquiry, does anyone have any further information on these Whitechapel reinforcements between 14/09/1889 and 11/10/1889?

    Any info much appreciated, Jon
