Hello. I'm not sure how it works in the UK's police force, but over here in the U.S., the police need to have a certain amount of probable cause in order to conduct a search warrant on a house or property or frisk/search a suspected individual. However, since both of our judiial systems are relatively similar, I would imagine it isn't too different. However, I was wondering, in 1888 during the Ripper investigation, did the police just question people around the property located at the crime scenes or did they make searches inside dwellings and houses to see if any kind of evidence could be discovered? If so, what kind of probable cause would they need to enter a dwelling? Also, did the police check all of the lodging houses and dwellings in and around the crime scenes?
