  • Nigel Morland

Hello. I seem unable to find any threads devoted to Nigel Morland's remark that he had spoken to Abberline about the Whitechapel murderer. Abberline was then supposed to have remarked that, first, the WM was known to Scotland Yard and, second, he was from a higher social stratum.

    My questions are these.

    1. Is Morland a serious researcher or a purveyor of crime stories (I suppose it is possible to be both)?

    2. Although this remark has been adduced to suggest complicity of the royal family, it seems that such an inference is not at all necessary. Can't one come from "farther up" without being a member of the peerage--let alone the royal family?

    3. If this observation of Morland's were true, would that tend to corroborate (or, conversely, disconfirm) Monro's purported remark about a "hot potato"?

    4. Finally, if true, how would this square with Abberline's favouring of Klosowski as the WM? Did he change his mind or was the Klosowski remark in jest?
