    The first problem is trying to pin the time, then we can assign names to faces. Secondly, where did you get the photo and how did you tie it to whitechapel?
    Thanks

    Hello you all!

    Like I have told earlier in one of my posts today;

    There isn't much photos of the witnesses.

    And even some police officials aren't photographed...

    Maybe there is the following explanation:

    Photography was relatively new and obviously a bit costy...

    All the best
    Jukka

    The pots are there in case the police want to run any criminals to earth.

    Never mind that. I wonder what happened to all the little flower pots on the ground in front of them.

    They look a little unfit to be chasing robbers, if I may say so...

    They are uniformed (Divisional) Inspectors Rob, one (possibly next to the man identified as Arnold) is probably Chief Inspector West.

    Could that "bearded wonder" at the top be Inspector Walter Andrews (of the Yard), Stewart? Unlikely, I know, but there's something about the nose and the shape of his beard that brings him to mind.

    Beards

    There are a couple of other bearded detectives in the picture, one near the feet of the detective sitting in the barred window and another just to the right below the two uniform PCs at the drainpipe in the angle of the wall.

    It seems to me that by 1888/89 beards were not so fashionable so one or two bearded detectives in the early photo may have shaved their beards by 1888. It is a great pity that this picture, unlike the 1889 one, is not captioned.
