I can't say that I disagree with anything you say. I think I would also have been reluctant. If he'd just been standing there opposite the entrance to Miller's Court when Sarah Lewis passed without any particular reason other than that he had no money for a bed, that would have been one thing, but to be admitting to have seen & spoken to her, then following her & companion, paying particular attention to the appearance of her companion and watch the court for 45 minutes is something else. He must have either made a good impression on Abberline & Co, or he and his colleagues were just focussing too much on this being the lead they needed (or a combination). Anyway, I think his story stinks, but I don't think he was involved in the murder.
