Does anyone know what type of occupations, particularly working class occupations, traditionally didn't require their employees to work weekends or Bank Holidays in 1888?

Not sure, CD. For quite a few, it would have been a case of being paid on the day on which they found work. Not that everyone in Whitechapel worked on an "as-and-when" basis, of course.Originally posted by c.d. View PostWasn't [payday] generally on Saturday?Kind regards, Sam Flynn

Absolutely - the patterns might reveal less about him as such, as about those around him. For example, if he were a lodging-house dweller, there may have been times when his co-dossers would have been less likely to notice his absence. If, that is, they were in a position to have missed him in the first place: with so many "transients" around, this might have worked in his favour.Originally posted by c.d.
