Hello researchers,
I was always wondering if there's any collection of the stories told by the people who lived in the Whitechapel/Spitalfieds area and witnessed themself the atumn 1888 panic? I think it would be exceptionally interesting to hear those stories - especially if they were told by the people who lived in close proximity to the crime scenes and had, potentially, some relation to the victims or suspects. I think some of those stories can be found in major Ripper books but it's always just a small piece, e.g. one of those stories (if I remember it correctly) was told by a man who as I young boy knew and saw Mary Kelly soliticing her clients outside of the Ten Bells Pub. If I messed up anything with this, please correct me. Ofc we have witness reports, press reports and stuff like that but to me story told by a witness in plain and simple words have new depth which I can't find in the historical books. Sometimes people hear those stories through their ancestors. If anyone has a materials that I can be pointed to or have any stories to tell, please do. I'm still trying to catch true sense of what was like living in the East End (especially during JTR spree) from the perspective of it's inhabitants.
I guess it would also be a wonderful research route.
