    Hi,
I forgot about our Cottage grove guy, but who would be the favourite.. a man pulled out of the hat, or the man who admitted to being the real deal?
    Regards Richard.

        Hi Sally -

I found this posted by Lichmere at: http://forum.casebook.org/archive/index.php/t-6036.html

Toppy’s marriage certificate – 15th May 1898 to Florence Jervis.
He is listed as a plumber aged 29.
        She was 20.
They gave their address as 576 Mile End Road, but they are not listed at that address in either the 1898 or 1899 electoral register – the same seemingly unconnected person was there on both these dates.
This is near Mile End Tube station, which in turn is quite close to Holy Trinity Church, on Morgan Street, which is where they were married - and where their first son was christened.
Toppy’s father George was a plumber and was deceased.
Her father William was a clerk and was a witness. I think his wife was the other witness.
I have not yet located the Jervis family in any census.
A nice Toppy signature as well.

        Hope this helps.

        Edward

I note that here, Hutchinson has apparently been described as having an age-range between 22 and 33 - 33 again.

That sounds as if perhaps there is a reference out there somewhere?

            Edward -

Hi Edward - that's George William Topping Hutchinson; he was 22 in 1888. There is a theory that he was the witness George Hutchinson. There are plenty of threads devoted to him, if you want to read up on him.

            Thanks for your reply

              Hi Sally

Mr Morley was the poster I mentioned, who claimed that newspapers gave an age of 33 :

Thanks Robert - hmm, well, that being the case it looks as though we might be at a dead end. He cites 'newspapers' and appears to take it as read that those references are there - but as I say, I can't recall ever seeing any press references to a definite age before.

                Thanks for your help

Hi Sally. I can't recall a report that gives an age for GH the witness either. That GH the witness also had a sister or family in Romford was also being inadvertently slipped in as a fact not too long ago.

As an aside - now I'm derailing my own thread lol - this is George Hutchison, right? As per Walter Dew's spelling?

                                Hi,
                                And the answer is 29,
So I guess we have confirmed that Topping was not GH.?
May I ask , who was this 29 year old.?
                                Regards Richard.
