    Interesting that there was a peak in "attempted" as well as actual murders in 1888, ditto 1891-93. Are there separate stats on "manslaughter", Colin? They'd be a useful comparator.

    Just a thought but some reports have victims strangled before their throats were cut, so I wonder where they fall in these Stats, not trying to start a fight just wondering.

    I don't think that there will be any records of those, do you?
    Evisceration occurred after death, not before, so would not be recorded as the cause.
    Would be interesting though. I doubt that there are many cases before or since.
