Quote function and other icons

There's an A with an _ beneath it next to the emotes button. If you press it the bold and italics option should return. Mine auto turned off yesterday but after pressing it they're back.

Over the past few days, all the icons for things like quotes, bold, italics etc. have disappeared from the posting bar. I'm on a Mac, running Catalina 10.15.7, is this a software problem?
