    Adam,

    1)Jack the Ripper.

    2)Unknown local man.

3)Raging narcissistic unknown man who the press named "Jack the Ripper" who also is the serial killer who killed 6+ women in1888.

This is me being serious, honestly, I have no prefered suspect besides the above....for now.

    Yours truly
    Washington Irving:

"To a homeless man, who has no spot on this wide world which he can truly call his own, there is a momentary feeling of something like independence and territorial consequence, when, after a weary day's travel, he kicks off his boots, thrusts his feet into slippers, and stretches himself before an inn fire. Let the world without go as it may; let kingdoms rise and fall, so long as he has the wherewithal to pay his bills, he is, for the time being, the very monarch of all he surveys. The arm chair in his throne; the poker his sceptre, and the little parlour of some twelve feet square, his undisputed empire. "

                    Apart from unknown local man

                    There are five reasonable suspects:

                    1. Cutbush
                    2. Chapman
                    3. Tumblelty
                    4. Druitt
                    5. Kosminski

These were all discussed by the police at the time in connection with the whitchapel murders. The rest are the product of over active imagination and wishful thinking.

                        1. Unknown man who's never been named, most likely.
2-3. William Bury and James Kelly, equally likely.

Pirate Jack, I've asked this of people before and can't seem to get a satisfactory answer- Why do you consider Druitt to be a reasonable suspect? The only reason I can see as to why the police considered him is because his family suspected he might have been the killer, and I've seen nothing written as to why they thought so. His suicide note said he was afraid of ending up with his mother's mental problems, but she was hardly a homicidal maniac.

                              Hi Pirate,

I can't agree with the rationale that a suspect becomes "reasonable" purely by virtue of the fact that he was "discussed by the police at the time in connection with the whitchapel murders". Surely some careful scrutiny of the nature of the suspicions is essential before we make that determination? Are the facts used to bolster the case in accordance with the historical record, and even if they are, do they really carry weight in terms of what we know to be true about other known serial killers (about whom the police in 1888 knew nothing, however competent they may have been in other respects)?

There are at least two suspects on your list of five that don't strike me as being particularly reasonable, and I have no problem saying so in spite of the fact that they were discussed by police in connection with the murders.

Similarly, it cannot be argued that any suspect with no evidence of police suspicion attached to their name must instantly be discarded as unreasonable, especially when you also happen to be championing "unknown local man", against whom there is equally no evidence of police suspicion.

                              Best regards,
                              Ben
