  • James Sadler - is this new info?

    Hi folks.

Whilst compiling the Sadler article for Wiki, I checked out biographical information, much of which was given in a statement made by his estranged wife.

Working backwards from various census sources, I discovered that Sadler's past is different from what I have seen before. Not wishing to disparage the efforts of notable others, I noted that Sadler was actually born in Stepney in c.1838 and that his wife's name was Sarah Maria Chapman. They had three daughters, the first of whom was born in Chatham, where Sadler and Sarah met and married and where Sarah later went to live before being briefly reconciled with James.

I also found out that Sadler was probably brought up by his mother, who was widowed before Sadler was 3 years old. It's just them two on the 1841 and 1851 census returns.

The JTR Sourcebook also documents further violent acts against his wife in 1892.

The link to the wiki page with all the relevant info is http://wiki.casebook.org/index.php/James_Sadler

    I this old hat?

      John,

      Kinda.

I have news clipping about that interview with Sadlers mother.

His father died at the age of 27 when Sadler was 3. His Grandfather was a major player in the Great Yarmouth shipping circles. He also had a still born brother.

Sadler was brought up by his Mum who taught him to write and read, untill the age of 9 where he went to Primrose Street School (again, memory here so I may be wrong). He left at 15 to work as a Clerk (or something like that) at the London Docks. He then became a seaman and, between bouts of being at sea, a warehouse man for a tea merchants.

He then met Sarah, or Sally as her liked to call her, at Chatham.

The daughters, if Im remebering correctly, went into service.

Got loads of info, if you want it mail me.

        Sarah Chapman/Annie Chapman

If it would be possible to make a link between Sadler's wife's maiden name and the second victim, Annie Chapman we would really be on a roll!

            John,

Im supposed to be working on something else but seeing as you have done the bulk of this mammoth task, impressively I may add, I feel its the least I can do.

Of course, this was going to be for the Rip but I suppose a lil expose wont do much harm, Ive got other stuff to fill its void.
