    Images of Abberline

I've read that there are no photos of Abberline, and only one drawing.

However, I have stumbled across this drawing. Does anyone know its provenance? I'd like to get one high-res image for use in my book, if poss.

Helena - in Stewart Evan's book "Scotland Yard Investigates" there is a group picture which may contain an image of Abberline. There are two possible candidates.

If you check this site for threads you should find a long discussion about the merits of the images in question.

      Hi Phil

Yes, I read some of the threads about the images. Any idea where this one I have posted comes from?

      Regards

        Toby

        Hi Helena,

The image is from Toby, discovered by Nick Connell back in 1999 while researching for the book The Man Who Hunted Jack the Ripper which he co-authored with Stewart Evans.

Stewart kindly posted a couple of page pages from Toby here:

        Best wishes
        Adam

            Hi Helena et al,

Scotland Yard Investigates was co-authored by Stewart Evans and Donald Rumbelow. My understanding is that Don was more convinced than Stewart that the figure in the group photograph was Abberline.

            Regards, Bridewell.
I won't always agree but I'll try not to be disagreeable.

There are at least three drawings, Helena. Here are the other two well known drawings, both of them newspaper sketches.

Cheers Chris, but is there one online or email-able that is high enough res that I could print it in a book? I wonder ....

This guy, in my opinion, is Abberline.

                    Hi Rob

Yes I would agree that the chap you have indicated is more consistent with the man pictured in the Toby drawing than the other candidates in the photograph which to my mind don't look like the magazine image.

Holy crap, I've totally missed that guy over there.

You're quite right, Rob. Clearly a credible candidate, I agree.

I too would like to welcome you back, Glenn. We met up some years ago, in Bath - if you remember. It is a day I recall fondly and found fascinating.

Your contribution to Casebook was always of great value.

Hope you are keeping well, prospering and will be seen here often.
