Nine dead as truck hits Berlin Christmas market

At least nine dead and several injured after a truck drove into a night market in the Germany capital. The attacker is reportedly on the run.

Not gonna say it's Islam, but the odds don't look good. Shame on Merkel for opening the gates to the barbarians.

We just watched a CNN report on this, the toll so far is nine dead and fifty injured. I got an impression the driver is dead (not on the run), due to the reporter saying an eye-witness saw several objects sticking out of the truck's windshield, which also had a large hole in it. They are speculating a policeman may have shot at the driver and killed him. But firm news is slow in coming, plus there is a bit of a language barrier. It is presumed to be terrorism.

Another story on the same report: a Turkish off-duty policeman shot and killed the Russian ambassador to Turkey, who was speaking at an art-gallery opening. The assassin was heard to shout in Turkish, "God is great! Remember Aleppo, remember the Syrians!"
Turkish authorities have neutralized the shooter, detained the man's family and are searching his home and possessions. Russia was quick to declare this a terrorist act.

So much for this Season of Peace on Earth, huh?

Last I heard there were two in the truck. One's been shot and killed by police, the other arrested.

Reports claim that truck was stolen from Poland. The dead passenger was Polish and the driver was Pakistani. ISIS have claimed responsibility (shock horror).

Apparently the stolen truck was loaded with steel, which means there is little doubt that it was intended to be a case of using the vehicle as a weapon against innocent people. The death toll has risen to twelve, by the way.

Turns out they've arrested the wrong man and the suspect's been released.
