  • The etruscan juridical system!

    Hello you all!

I have a strange idea of writing a detective story taking place in ancient Etruria.

If anyone knows where to look for info about the Etruscan juridical system, any posts to this thread are most welcome!

    All the best
    Jukka

Livy's Early History of Rome might be worth a scout through.

I believe that there was a book put out by Penguin in the 1950s or 1960s about the Etruscans. In fact, I believe that was the title: "The Etruscans".

The Etruscan World (2013), edited by Turfa, contains an article by Hilary Wills Becker, "Political Systems and Law." The article concludes with an extensive bibliography. Much of the scholarship on this topic seems to be in Italian.

This link states that "It is believed early Roman law was rooted in Etruscan religion, relying on ritual." http://www.crystalinks.com/romelaw.html

I had several search hits for "Etruscan judicial system" at a site called www.etruscanfederation.org, but it seems their domain name has expired as of May 1, 2018 and is waiting to be renewed, so no luck there.

Am I the only one itching to discover how this tale turns out?
