Just what you want your physician to have handy in his office during working hours-- a barrel of ale! Jolly, indeed...

Some doctors still think a beer is good for you, even more a strong stout.

A Guinness has been given to patients in English hospitals as part of their therapy.

Guinness could really be good for you, BBC News, 13 November 2003.

I had an uncle who wasn't eating"

They kept him alive, and fairly healthy. For years mainly on stout.

Unfortunately, here in Oz,Guinness is brewed by CUB.

Same mob that makes Fosters which is flogged to the Poms

                  Coopers make an excellent stout.

                  Ditto Southwark.

Tooth's Sheaf Stout used to be great till Cub bought them out.

They now try to pass Tooheys Old off as a Stout at a lot of places.

Lion brews Guinness in Australia, not CUB. It used to be licensed by CUB but they lost it several years back, in 2009 or 10 as I recall. Though I never got why Australia brewed their own and didn't do the rehydrated like most of the world.

I’m often irrelevant. It confuses people.

                          You are quite right.

Haven't had a Guinness for ages.

Used to brew my own triple stout from Coopers.

Have Southwark delivered when I really want a stout.

A Third report of cigars and drink

                            Hi all,

Here's a third report of Tumblety enjoying his cigars and drink:

                            The Sun, June 26, 1904
...He dressed expensively and hardly spoke to the acquaintances of his boyhood... He spent money lavishly, buying champagne by the case and cigars by the box.

                            Sincerely,
                            Mike
