Default Security Warnings?

Hello, I have received notices on my Android tablet that this site's security certificate doesn't match its name, and also that "a secure connection could not be made"-- always while visiting Casebook Forums.

Once the Android tablet also threw up the warning that my "phone" (it's a Verizon device, but not a phone) had been "hacked by American hackers" and gave me a link to visit. I rapidly shut it off, and it now seems okay, but still announces secure connections here can't be made.

Yesterday I went to Casebook Forums on the iPad I have from work, and it froze while displaying a message that the IOS had crashed, and I should call a phone number it displayed. I shut that off, and will report it to IT at my workplace on Monday.

Anyone know if there is a problem with this site's security certificate?

Is it possible that you typed int casebook.com by mistake? That has had a problem with it's security certificate for years.

I don't think so, as I get here via bookmark, but thank you.

Thanks for informing us of the problem. The admin is currently on a week long hike and does not have a computer just a phone, but we will look into this and get back to you as soon as possible.

Quick solution check... Check the address when you get a warning. Does it say httpS instead of http.casebook.org or forums. If you are using a https link you will get an error message. No S after the http.

No, nothing like that. The address looks fine, but one device warns me of problems with security certificates not matching, and "a secure connection could not be made" (despite the fact that I AM on the Message boards at the time).

The other device just threw up a warning about the IOS crashed, and freezes when on the web for anything, not just Casebook (but I went to Casebook when this message first appeared.)

I'm worried something is hacking us, but not sure what or how.

Hey there. Brief explanation. No one is hacking. Security certificates are used primarily for businesses that have a financial component or take credit card information or in some other way collect sensitive data from you. Casebook itself does not take any sensitive information from you, so we do not have a security certificate. We do accept pay pal donations, but that goes through paypal site, not through ours. If your browser is set to check security cerrtificates you will get a warning because we don't have one as we don't need one. If you ever came to Casebook and you somehow got redirected to a site that was asking you to put in your credit card information to post on the boards, I would hope you would know that would be in error! No one is hacking.

Bottom line: we don't have a security certificate because we don't need one as we don't deal with any financial information or any other personal information about you. Our servers are locked to any non-approved IP addresses so hackers will actually have a hard time getting in to do anything. NOt impossible, but harder than the reward would make it worthwhile for what they'd get. (Unless it's JOnathan Menges, he was recently given access to upload the podcasts. I always said he was shifty...!)

Ally, you rock! Thanks for setting my mind at rest about "hacking" (undoubtedly due to too many "Mr Robot" episodes in a row)!

I've been ignoring the "warnings", and usually all goes well. The one time I mistakenly hit "continue", it did send me somewhere else, but I shut it down at once. It seemed okay later, and I haven't done that since.

Make sure that your PC clock / date is correct. If that's wrong then it will throw up this type of error/warning.
