We hope you see you there!
Following on from my original post, just to say that the conference website will be going live next week, with further details about the event and details of how to book places for what is looking like being a great weekend. Watch this space or join the Jack the Ripper East End Conference Facebook Group at
It looks like it'll be a great event by Adam, Frogg and Mark. I'm forced to say yet again that I REALLY wish I could make it over there, but sadly it won't happen this year. Looking forward to the additional speaker announcements nonetheless.
Andrew Firth did a wonderful job on the artwork, but that goes without saying-and I'll continue to say it.
The following was posted on the Whitechapel Society's FB page earlier this evening:
Some WS members have contacted us to mention that the 2017 London JtR Conference is on the same day as a Whitechapel Society meeting. For those concerned, please read the statement below.
'The conference team are aware that the date coincides with a Whitechapel Society meeting. We have therefore agreed with the Society that they will not hold their usual meeting on Saturday 5th August 2017 but in return members of the WS who are not attending the conference may join the conference talk that evening free of charge. For delegates who are members of the WS, there will be a small reduction in the conference fee.'
The organising team are delighted to announce that the website for the 2017 Jack the Ripper East End Conference is now live!
Not only that, but we can reveal that the weekend event will be held at two venues, with the daytime talks on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th August taking place at the Water Poet on Folgate Street, and the Saturday evening keynote lecture being held at the new Curzon Aldgate cinema on Goodman's Fields.
The cost is just £75 per delegate, with a concession for Whitechapel Society members!
We are now taking deposits of just £25, so book your place now!
Diagonally opposite the venue for the conference is Dennis Sever's House at number 18 Folgate Street, featuring this rather splendid operational gas lamp. If I'm not mistaken this is the only gas lamp left in working order on the streets of Spitalfields.
All the best
