For those in the Uk this might be worth a look
Sunday evening at 9pm on BBC1
Casualty 1907 - about life in the London Hospital, Whitechapel
    Stars Jane Seymour

  • #2
I misidentified the lead actress from the trailer I saw - it is Cherie Lunghi, not Jane Seymour
    Details are in Imbd at

    where it is summarised as:
"Uses case notes, ward diaries and memoirs from archives at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, to bring real doctors, nurses and patients from a Victorian London hospital back to life."

      Hey Guys,

Anyone who watched this program may have noted a dermatologist called James Sequeira. He was the Doctor Guy using the ultra violet ray gun thingy.

      There, my knowledge exposed !

Anyway, as you all know, this series is based on real people and James Henry Sequeira was a well known Doctor who specialised in dermatology and syphilology.

Oh, he was also the older brother of George William Sequeira. The first Doctor at the scene of the Eddowes murder.

      Here endith todays interesting fact.

Personally, I'm just waiting for Lily Allen's younger brother (who's playing the leader of the Blind Beggar gang) to break into a Music Hall rendition of the chorus of 'LDN'.

Interesting Monty....How old was George William Sequeira at the time of the murders then? The guy playing his older brother 20 years later didn't look that old did he?

              My bad

              Hey Debs,

              My mistake, sorry.

James and George were not brothers but rather cousins.

George would have been around 29 years old in 1888, DOB 1859

In 1901 James was around 36 years of age, DOB 1865.

              I may be wrong....again!

                Grr... not happy.

I taped CASUALTY 1908 off the TV when it was on and I've been building up a DVD of them, having just transferred the second episode which then crashed the disc. I'd wiped the first episode off from my original VHS and now the disc is corrupted and I can't watch it at all.

Did anyone record the three-part series? I'd buy it on DVD but I don't think it's been issued. I'm keen on getting it all, and the 1907 one-off that was shown in 2007.

I've got lots and lots of Ripper programmes I can swap!

Hi Philip, There are currently no plans to release this excellent programme at the moment and we can only hope they repeat it at some point, after all it is the BBC!

I know they were available to watch on BBCi player, but these only lasted about a week until the next episode was televised.

I have not seen any copies on the usual site either, nor have any been posted on any of the video sharing sites such as youtube.
                  Regards Mike

BBC4 Showed the Pilot Episode at 9 o'clock last night (Casualty 1906).
I had missed this episode the first time around but loved it, especially the gaurds at the gates, the operation scenes, and the way the wards were cleaned!

Still no plans for a general release, nor have any other episodes appeared on the the BBC channels.
                    Regards Mike
