Also, the Sheraz Restaurant in Brick Lane offers rooms. You can book through Susan Parry as they are giving us a good deal.

        Thanks Chris,

I totally agree, meeting with like-minded people is a real highlight and I'm really looking forward to October!

We are delighted with the developments so far and thanks to everyone for the positive comments and support.

We still have one or two presentations to confirm - Kim Newman has said that he really wants to take part (but the date is too far ahead for a final commitment), and there will be news on Jeff Leahy shortly.

To those coming over from the USA and Europe, a special thank you!

        Best wishes,
        Frogg

I've taken five walks in the past 6 weeks and used The Monsoon at the end of each walk, with parties of between 12-20 people. The guy on the door now knows me and has been giving us all the same discounts and freebies.

2 free drinks each, pints as well, free popadams and 30% off of the bill! Food has been excellent as well, with very big portions. The best bit, I don't pay a penny, the atendees all cover my costs!

Roy Hudd singing ‘Sam Hall - Damn your eyes’
There are a lot of different versions but I think this was close to the one Roy Hudd performed at the Whitechapel Society Conference (I think Donald Rumbelow is just in the picture to the right).

Well, my name it is Sam Hall, Sam Hall.
Yes, my name it is Sam Hall; it is Sam Hall.
My name it is Sam Hall an' I hate you, one and all.
An' I hate you, one and all:
                    Damn your eyes.

I killed a man, they said; so they said.
I killed a man, they said; so they said.
I killed a man, they said an' I smashed in his head.
An' I left him layin' dead,
                    Damn his eyes.

But a-swingin', I must go; I must go.
                    A-swingin', I must go; I must go.
A-swingin', I must go while you critters down below,
Yell up: "Sam, I told you so."
                    Well, damn your eyes!

I saw Molly in the crowd; in the crowd.
I saw Molly in the crowd; in the crowd.
I saw Molly in the crowd an' I hollered, right out loud:
"Hey there Molly, ain't you proud?
                    "Damn your eyes."

Then the Sherriff, he came to; he came to.
Ah, yeah, the Sherriff, he came to; he came to.
The Sherriff, he come to with his little boys in blue,
An I said: "Well, Sherriff, how are you,
                    "Damn your eyes."

                    My name is Samuel, Samuel.
                    My name is Samuel, Samuel.
My name is Samuel, an' I'll see you all in hell.
An' I'll see you all in hell,
                    Damn your eyes.

They need to advertise their films more - only 108 views!
It is worth watching for those who weren't there.
But the Sam Hall performance was edited out!

This crossed with Adrian's post - more to watch!

                            I missed this talk:
Linda Stratmann - ‘CRUEL DEEDS AND DREADFUL CALAMITIES:
THE ILLUSTRATED POLICE NEWS 1864 -1938’

But I had a long chat with her over lunch and she raised a number of interesting issues relating to how the IPN produced its written articles and how the illustrations themselves were made.

Is there a film of her talk?

There is film of Linda's talk and that will be posted up very soon.

The 'editing out' of the film was more down to not enough film in the camera!!!

                              Spread the word!
