• Anatomical Venus

No it isn't Mary Kelly, even though she has several internal organs at her feet. It's an Anatomical Venus. The “Venerina” or “Little Venus” wax anatomical model by Clemente Susini, 1782. Photo by Joanna Ebenstein at, appropriately enough, The Whitechapel Gallery. Courtesy of the Palazzo Poggi, Bologna, Italy. 2010.

David Wilson Professor of Criminology:
'Connection, connection, connection. There is no such thing as coincidence when you are dealing with serial killers.'

Case solved: Clemente Susini was the Ripper! No need to worry about the technicality that he was dead in 1888!

Dangling entrails, erupting torsos and intestines in piles: the ‘Slashed Beauties’ spark disgust in viewers today. But that is to misunderstand them, an expert tells Fiona Macdonald.

These Venus works have been displayed since their creation. They may point to a cultured or well-educated man (Ripper). Or they show an interesting image that reflects sidimilarities to Mary Kelly's evisceration. Or demonstrate an artist's sometimes uncanny ability to imagine/create a future event. Think. Science fiction.

Hi Bill

I might be wrong, but I sense that it is mere coincidence that the slaughtered Mary Jane Kelly resembled an Anatomical Venus.

Best regards

Most likely. Still an interesting artwork in the art section thread.
