I've long thought the answer was so obvious it was being overlooked - Red Manley has to ne prime suspect. I'm aware the police ultimately dismissed him as he had an alibi - but what was it? Was it any good? I've never seen it discussed or evaluated. I think John Gilmore's suspect - Jack Anderson Wilson - is an Alphon figure.
