  • Nile pans

"In July, acknowledging pressure from local Asian activists, officials at the Exchange mall in Rochdale, England, said they would remove the toilets from two of the facility's restroom stalls and build "Nile pans," also known as "squat toilets" -- also to Westerners referred to as "holes in the ground." The officials said they were trying to serve the many Pakistani and Bangladeshi immigrants living in Greater Manchester. [Daily Mail,"

Did this really happen? At what point is political correctness not appropriate?

This sounds like a typical Daily Mail panic about nothing. I am in daily contact with many Muslims - the majority of them from Pakistan - and I can report that they are more than happy to use normal lavatory facilities and would not dream of using anything approaching a 'hole in the ground'. If you travel to Pakistan - all the major cities have buildings in which the public lavaroties would match any found in Rochdale.
