  • Aid required (not homework)

    hi ho

    The following gubbins:

"The common lodging house system did allow the police a larger measure of social control. The owners of the houses were often prepared "to assist the police with information, and the inmates [were] under police supervision to a greater extent than they would be if they were driven to live elsewhere."

    This comes apparently from:

Parliamentary Papers of House of Commons, 22 November. 1888, 330:1819.

Can anyone determine if this is true and f other information was provided in those papers/

I am of course thinking of our man GH.

      Hi, MrP.

I've only seen the text which you quote once on the Web - well, twice now, since you posted it here! - and there was no real context or supporting materials given. Without any additional info, I'd say we're pretty much stuck for now.

          Hi MrP,

          There's this:

Seems that organisations can pay a subscription fee, but individual membership appears to be a no-no. There is also this, which operates on a similar basis:

Access to these sources may, apparently, be obtained from certain public libraries and Universities. Joe Public can go hang, it appears

            Hi Mr P
The quote you gave is an extract from a reply by Home Secretary Matthews to a question from an M.P. named Howell.
This is reported as below in The Times on 23 November 1888
            Hope his helps
