  • Druitt family photo?

In the 1988 documentary "The secret Identity of Jack the Ripper" (The one with Peter Ustinov & Jan Leeming) about 43 minutes in when discussing Druitt's candidacy and his "Good Family" a photograph is shown on screen.

Is this a "known" photograph? It is shown just before a segment by Dan Farson, is it genuine or just a "stock good family photo"?

If it is genuine, which one is Monty?
My opinion is all I have to offer here,

    Dave.

Some of the Druitts were clergymen so that part fits. Although that having been said, none of the males look like Monty to me. My sense is that, as you suspect, this may be a generic family group and not MJD's family at all.

Very strange, all the other photographs used in the programme are ones I recognise...they use this photo more than once when referring to Druitt's family.
My opinion is all I have to offer here,

      Dave.

Also interestingly there are 6 "younger" individuals that could be 6 Druitt children.

Could the man of the cloth be great uncle William (Mayo) ?

The guy 2nd from the left does resemble the picture of Edward Druitt...

Flipped the known Edward pic...certainly their 'tashes are dead ringers for each other!

The family photo is not in JJ Hainesworth's Druitt book, so at the very least the photo is probably not 100% verified. But of the known pictures of MJD, he appeared to have narrow shoulders and a very long neck, similar to the male in the center back row with the cap

None of them really look like Monty to me. As Pontius said, the guy in the cloth cap is the closest, but even he isn't very similar for my money.

            Was Druitt ever a transvestite

Very close, Dave, and I'm almost convinced. However, Edward's chin seems slightly squarer to my eyes, and his jawline altogether more firm. Could that be a trick of the light?

I have heard from Jonathan Hainesworth and he has confirmed that this is indeed a Druitt family group photograph, although Monty himself is not among those present.

Thanks Chris, I've never seen the photo anywhere else.

I screen-grabbed it off a rather dodgy recording it would be nice to see a better copy of it.

                    Hi Dave

This is what Jonathan said to me by pm at JtR Forums --

"Just to drop you a line about the 'Druitt' photo that has surfaced on Casebook. It is of James Druitt Sr. and family. Among the people in the picture is James Jr. and both attended Montague's funeral.

"James Sr. was one of Montie's uncles. . . ."

                    Cheers

                      Hi Chris,

Sorry for the late reply, I thought I had responded to this at the time.

                      Thank Jonathan for me, cheers.
