  • Jack - The Musical, The Ripper Pursued

Every year about this time I buy myself a couple of JtR-related Christmas presents. I do this because, if I told my friends and relatives that I wanted something in that area, I would end up with several paperback copies of Cornwell's book. (My friends and relatives have very little imagination when it comes to our favourite subject.)

This year, I bought a CD of Jack - The Musical, The Ripper Pursued (2006), music by Erik Sitbon, lyrics by the our own, multi-talented Chris George. I listened to it for the first time tonight, and loved it. Haunting music, poignant lyrics, excellent singing. (I particularly liked the rhyming of "squad" and "God".) I'm going to have to listen to it a few more times to catch all the nuances, but it seemed awfully good the first time.

I'd really enjoy seeing a full production of this show sometime. (Future conference organizers, take note.)

There is a YouTube clip with scenes from the musical here. The clip includes the whole of Erik's orchestration of the "From Hell" letter.
