  • Martin Fido reissues on iTunes

    Hi all,

I'd like to draw attention to the fact that over the last few months, MCI, along with Martin Fido, has been quietly releasing Mr. Fido's audio productions in the iTunes Music Store for purchase. Many of these titles have been out-of-print and available on cassette only.

No Jack the Ripper titles yet, but I've heard that the process of getting Martin Fido's books up is ongoing. I'd keep checking back for new titles.

The ones available so far are:

    The Wests

    Multiple Killers

    Poisoners

Murder After Midnight: The Serial Killers

    Wife Killers

    Child Killers

    Family Murders

    Murder After Midnight: Prostitute Killers

    Domestic Poisoners

    Cannibals

Murder After Midnight: Sexual Serial Killers

Murder After Midnight: Mass Family Murder

    The Bodysnatchers

If you've yet to hear any of Martin Fido's "audiobooks", now's your chance.

    It's a good thing.

    On the trail tapes

His three hour plus LBC, On the trail of JTR tapes
was really my introduction to the case of the ripper
He does a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere and covers alot of ground
    I'd highly recommend them

Note that some of Martin's JTR audiobooks are now available on iTunes for about £6.

I wonder if he knows or is getting anything from them? When we met last year I had a load of things for signing and there was a CD issue of one of his audios he knew nothing about and hadn't authorised or been paid for!

I love his audio tapes. I've got loads of them. He's got a very particular style of delivery and quite a way with the words.

These look a little scary. Does he have any children's stories?

            Hi Philip,

Martin knows this is being done as he was the one who informed me about it. Paul Savory from MMI UK (not MCI as I previously incorrectly stated above), with Martin's blessing, is attempting to acquire the rights to all of his audio productions whose rights were spread all over the place. As MMI UK gets them, they are released on iTunes. That might explain the delay in seeing some titles, but not others, made available.

Thanks Sam Flynn for the heads up on the Ripper titles.

            JM

I can recommend "Feed Grandma to the Wolf".

On The Trail Of JTR has been on the NZ version of the iTunes store for quite some time - I downloaded and listened to it last year some time. Fabulous work, with Mr Fido's wonderful and entertaining delivery and occasional bursts of character voices - highly recommended!

Ah Sam, Sam! The way things are now a good children's story would be 'Feed the wolf to Grandma'. Wolf Tikka Massala for the Old Age Pensioner, heavy on the chillies to disguise the ravages of time. Not on the Pensioner's side either.

A little late to the thread here but it's never too late to add a thumbs up vote--missed Mr. Menges' news about these here, but a friend and fellow longtime Whitechapel afficionado found the Fido iTunes recordings himself and we've both downloaded several to start. What a wonderful performer he is, as well as-of course-writing so clearly and well. Highest recommendations from this quarter.
If I've any complaint it's only that I wish they were all as long as the Rippercasts(which are by usual podcast standards epic)-but it just encourages me to get them all. They're quite a bargain imho.

There are 13 of these Martin Fido audio productions at the Amazon.com store.

So those of you who might not be the biggest fan of the iTunes store (for example, if you'd prefer mp3), might want to buy these there. They are a bit cheaper there too. However, not everything on iTunes is at Amazon right now. It's about 13 to iTunes 31 (including Jack), so you might want to bare that in mind.
