Hi, man with scary ID (no, not you, Monty)

The pavements are not original and it's a myth about the cobbles being original too. There may be one or two left but they are not in situ. They run the other direction to how they appear in William Stewart's A NEW THEORY from 1938.

      They do indeed Phil,

I remember spending one glorious sunny Sunday morning in the square listening to Rob and Nats arguing over cobbles whilst I was getting my dimensons right.

Rob was calmness personified, werent you Robert?

      Monty.

You mustn't upset people with connections like Rob, Monty. You could find yourself subjected to a lens-capping.

            Rob,

That would be the Williams and Co corner. Cant give an exact date but its around that date.

            Phil,

Lens cap Clacky! "I cant figure it out" says Rob. "These photos keep coming out blank!"

Loved the way he casually removes the lens cap in hopes we wouldnt notice.

              You make one little mistake............

That screencap is from the documentary 'Jack the Ripper The Final Solution' made 1980. Must have watched it dozens of times but didn't realise it could be Kearley and Tonge as I always believed it was demolished by then.

                The cobbles are going folks....

                Rob,

                Demolished mid 80s wasnt it?

                Guys,

Just doing a lazy search and found this, Mitre Square of the future.

Seems as though these plans have fallen through but its worth noting that the area is changing rapidly. Even more so over these next few years.

This is why Robs, Johns, Phils, Nats (and everyone else who takes photos of the area) picture work is so important.

I for one would travel down to London and lay in front of the work vehicles to stop this!!

                    Mike,

Seeing as its proposed date is 2003 I feel it was merely an application that was turned down.

However, it just goes to show...

                      Hi Monty,

Not really sure, Williams & Co and Horner & Son were gone by 1979. The warehouse which backed onto Dukes Place Synagogue may have gone around 1974. Hard to tell from this drawing, from a 'Daily Telegraph' clipping courtesy of SPE:

Thank god for that, it looked awful!!

The kinda rubbish they plan for Hull, only to fail because no one wants to invest!!

They are planning on building flats next to a building which dates from the 1700's, its a lovely location on the High Street of Hull and overlooks the River hull. It is a location Yorkshire Paranormal have visted on many occasions named Blaydes House.

My fear is the new flats will look awful next to this grand historic building.

I love that "Rippers City", lovely sketch.
                        Regards Mike

On the old board some very talented person (far too talented to be on the Apprentice) made a virtual 3D graphic show of Mitre Square. I hope they can be persuaded to re-post it. And perhaps to do the same for some of the other loci, a virtual show of Miller's Court perhaps? Apologies for making a rather sad post. I've just been rubbished on another thread and am in need of picking up.
