                  Brecht/Weill's Threepenny Opera gives more than a nod to JTR. Here's a wonderfully atmospheric 1930 recording of Kurt Gerron singing the Moritat von Mackie Messer, which he very much made his own:



                  Gerron was a much-loved and talented German character actor, who was sadly gassed at Auschwitz in 1944.
