it takes quite a bit of work to select, clean, dress, "comb" and dye these feathers in order to make them useable for milliners. They also have to be conserved to prevent the quills from rotting away (and stinking).

As far as I know, the French call these tradesmen plumassiers.

Mr Cohen probably had no ostriches of his own but got his supply of raw feathers from importers down at the docks.

Regards,

Boris

Good Lord... I think I know the lady from the alleged MJK portrait and it's not Mary Jane Kelly.

Meet archduchess Marie Valerie von Habsburg, the youngest child of the emperor Franz Josef and his wife Elisabeth of Bavaria.

Wow! I think you nailed it. Her lips even have the same look.

Sincerely,
Mike

Very similar certainly. I'm not convinced it's the same person, but there's certainly a similarity.

Regards, Bridewell.

Hi Bridewell,

There's too many look-alikes to be entirely convinced, but if we were forced to choose, the archdutchess has my vote.

Sincerely,

Mike

Typical. I go on hiatus for half a year and an alleged photo of the elusive MJK turns up. Never leaving this site again .

Hi,
I guess that we have all got over the shock of the photo not being Mary Kelly, however it really brings home the age of her, 24-25 , which is in complete contrast to the others, who were 15 years and more older..
One must ask the obvious.
Why did the killer not target, younger women, was it because they were not available, in the small hours,[ which I doubt] or was it because he was initially only targeting middle aged .
So why the different MO?
Why Mary Kelly?
Why was she [ apparently] the last of the series?.
Regards Richard.

Side by side comparison

Roy
Maybe I'm nitpicking here but I can give an opinion.

When I first saw the alleged photo I felt something was wrong. The hair color and length I don't feel would match Mary Kelly judging from the crime scene photo.

As to Roy's comparison here, there are similarities, hairstyle and color, for instance and full lips. But the noses do not match, nor the earlobes. I really don't see the same lips either, the upper lip being different.

Just my opinion. for what it is worth...

Hey Richard, I must have missed something in this thread. What evidence is there that this is definetly not Mary Kelly? It probably isn't - too good to be true comes to mind, just like to know. Thanks.
