Hello, Hello, am I still on ignore?

There was a suspension of Discharge on grounds that basically, his books were cooked. Seeing as they want to investigate his records 3 years prior to his Bankruptcy in 1891 means that Lusk may have been in trouble as far back as 1888.

Jack really did hit business hard.

                  Hi Chris,

                  that's really interesting.

i wonder if no one in Mile end wanted a house building or decortating after the ripper scare!

You come up with great stuff,

even better as i am bored at work

                    Chris,

If I may, Lusks bankruptcy events in chronological order.

Lusk filed for Bankruptcy on 25 April 1891. He was advertised, as all bankruptcies are, even today, in The London Gazette on 28 April 1891

The Bankruptcy Acts, 1883 and 1890

                    No: 1259
                    Debtor's Name: Lusk, George Akin
Address: Residing at 1, 2, and 3 Alderney Road, Globe Road, Mile End
                    Description: Builder and Decorator
Court: High Court of Justice in Bankruptcy
Date of Filing Petition: 25 April 1891
No. of matter: 520 of 1891
                    No. of Receiving Order: 243
                    Whether Debtor's or Creditor's Petition: Debtor's

Lusk now has bankruptcy restrictions imposed.

The last day for his Creditors to lodge a proof of debt was 2 March 1892

                    The London Gazette
                    16 February 1892

                    NOTICES OF INTENDED DIVIDENDS.
                    Debtor's Name. Lusk, George Akin
                    Address. 1, 2, and 3, Alderney-road, Globe-road, Mile
                    End, Middlesex
                    Description. Builder and Decorator
                    Court. High Court of Justice
                    in Bankruptcy
                    No. 520 of 1891
Last Day for Receiving Proofs. Mar. 2, 1892
Name of Trustee. E. L. Hough, Official Receiver
                    Address. 33, Carey-street, Lincoln's inn, London, W.C.

It then would seem as the Offical Receiver, Mr E L Hough, has applied to be released as Trustee. Its possible an Insolvency Practitioner has take Lusks bankruptcy on.

                    The London Gazette
                    13 December 1892

                    Notice of Release of Trustees

                    Debtor's Name: Lusk, George Akin
Address: Residing at 1, 2, and 3 Alderney Road, Globe Road, Mile End
                    Description: Builder and Decorator
Court: High Court of Justice in Bankruptcy
No. of matter: 520 of 1891
                    Trustee's Name: E. Leadam Hough
Trustee's Address: Bankruptcy Buildings, Carey Street, Lincoln's Inn, W.C.
                    Trustee's Description: Official Receiver
Date of Release: 24 November 1892

Then, on 8 March 1895 a Disacharge hearing was heard to establish if Lusks bankruptcy should cease (Therefore lifting restrictions). Again, this is advertised in the Gazette so creditors can attend and lodge, if needs be, any objection to discharge.

                    Applications for Debtors' Discharge

                    Debtor's Name: Lusk, George Akin
Address: Residing at 1, 2, and 3 Alderney Road, Globe Road, Mile End
                    Description: Builder and Decorator
Court: High Court of Justice in Bankruptcy
                    No: 520 of 1891
Day Fixed for Hearing: March 8, 1895 11 a.m., Bankruptcy Buildings, Carey Street, London W.C.

It would seem that at the March 8 hearing the application to be discharged (have the restrictions lifted) was turned down on the grounds that Lusk books and records were poorly kept. An investigation into his book keeping, or rather non book keeping, for the period 1888 to 1891 was launched.

Like I say, it would seem Mr Lusk was under suspicion of finanicial irregularities.

                        Chris,

I knew he was bankrupt at some stage.

Id be interested if we could find more infor after the Suspension of Discharge cos, if found guilty, he could have been banned as a Director.
