  • Royal Irish Constabulary

Hello All. Just checked a thread entitled "RIC in Miller's Court?" It seems, however, that the Royal Irish Constabulary has no independent thread. I hope to change that.

Here is a link to the RIC historical website. Note the lovely hats.

Hope to post a few snippets later.

    Cheers.

Hello Lynn. Thanks for the link.

But I'm afraid I had no eyes for their lovely hats, as I was so fascinated by their manly mustaches.

    Best Regards,

      strapped

Hello Bunny. Thanks. Seems one chap has his moustaches holding his hat strap in place.

      Cheers.

Is one guy holding his hat up with his mustache?
I confess that altruistic and cynically selfish talk seem to me about equally unreal. With all humility, I think 'whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might,' infinitely more important than the vain attempt to love one's neighbour as one's self. If you want to hit a bird on the wing you must have all your will in focus, you must not be thinking about yourself, and equally, you must not be thinking about your neighbour; you must be living with your eye on that bird. Every achievement is a bird on the wing.

                  protection function

Hello All. Seems a major function of the RIC was to protect.

Cutting from "Brief News and Opinion" June 4, 1881.

                  Cheers.

                    RIC at meeting

Hello All. Seems not all liked the RIC. Here is first part of clipping from "The Hackney Express and Shoreditch Observer" March 24, 1888.

                    Cheers.
