Hello
Because I'm from Norway, it is a bit difficult for me to understand how the victims really looked...! I mean...-I do understand the descriptions 'red hair', 'stout complexion' a.s.o., but I can't find out how tall the victims were, a.s.o. Here in Norway we use centimetres, kilos, a.s.o.

Mary Ann Nichols was 157 cm tall and from her photos, she looked to have an average build.
Annie Chapman was 152 cm tall and "stout"- a solid build.
Elizabeth Stride was 165 cm tall and an average build. She was considered tall, and called "Long Liz".
Catherine Eddowes was 152 cm tall and very thin.
Mary Jane Kelly was 170 cm tall and "stout". She was quite tall for her time and full-figured.

She was considered tall, and called "Long Liz".Liz's nickname probably refers to her surname, rather than to her being tall - as in "long stride". Similarly, one might refer to someone named "White" as "Chalky", or someone named "Miller" as "Dusty".

Hello Pippin Joan!
Only now I've noticed this thread...:shakehead:
Liz could have been considered tall, but someone on these boards has told the following thing;
"Long" was a common nickname for people with a last-name Stride!:hiya:
All the best
